6 Senators Who Could Be Moved at the NHL Trade Deadline
February 5, 2024 by Paul Quinney
Rumours are rampant in Bytown that the Ottawa Senators could be making some big trades leading up to the March 8 NHL trade deadline. The team’s president of hockey operations and general manager (GM), Steve Staios promised as much early in the new year. Speaking to The Jason Gregor Show (Staios interview starts at 1:07:50) on Edmonton’s Sports 1440 on Jan. 5, Staios said he’d “like to add a veteran player if he could” before the trade deadline.
Let’s take a look at who could be on the trading block with the trade deadline less than five weeks away.
Ottawa Senators Who Could Be At the 2026 Olympics
February 4, 2024 by Dayton Reimer
When the NHL announced that they were not going to participate in the 2018 Olympics, fans and players were understandably upset. They had been robbed of a best-on-best tournament; no league-created event, from the All-Star Game to the ironically named World Cup of Hockey, ever came close to the prestige and competitiveness of the Olympics. So, when the NHL announced that they would officially return to the Olympics in 2026 in Milan, Italy, and the yet-to-be-announced 2030 games, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief. For the first time since 2014, we could see a true best-on-best tournament again.
Despite the games still being two years away, it’s hard not to imagine who could end up being on various Olympic hockey rosters, especially from teams with young rosters like the Ottawa Senators. Despite their disappointing season so far, there’s no question that at least a few players will end up on their respective nation’s rosters, but there may be more than you realize. Here are the top candidates from the Senators that could end up playing in the 2026 Olympics.
Devils and Senators Could Be Perfect Trade Partners
February 7, 2024 by JP Gambatese
The Devils have been one of the most injury-ravaged teams in the NHL, with stars Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, and Dougie Hamilton having already missed significant time and more minor pieces like Jonas Siegenthaler, Tomas Nosek, and Brendan Smith leaving the Devils without the depth required to compete every game. Goaltending is the other principal issue, with the Devils having received league-worst goaltending in terms of save percentage and second-worst in terms of goals saved above expected (GSAx).
The Senators, meanwhile, should be sellers this season — as a team with post-season aspirations before the seasons started, they’ve endured quite a disappointing year and have fallen well out of the playoff race. On paper, their team should be able to compete, but the results simply aren’t there. They fired their coach and continue to play uninspired hockey under a new system, so it’s clear that the roster just won’t cut it and needs, at the least, a shakeup. Enter the Devils, who, once they get some clarity in their net, should eye the Senators as a trade partner. There are some major (and minor) players that the Devils could certainly benefit from.
