Sam Dickinson’s Confidence Is High Heading Into the 2024 NHL Draft

The 2024 NHL Draft will see a number of high-end defenders get selected in not just the first-round, but within the top 10-15 spots. With attention being given to names like Artyom Levshunov, Zeev Buium and Zayne Parekh, Sam Dickinson’s stock has been climbing all season long.
Originally selected by the Niagara Ice Dogs and traded to the London Knights, Dickinson has always possessed the qualities of a highly skilled, smooth skating, two-way defender. He didn’t look out of place as a rookie last season and many expected him to have a big impact in his draft year. Dickinson showed exactly why he should be the first defender taken on draft day as his confidence, poise and complete game shows every time he’s on the ice.

With my final draft rankings piece releasing earlier this week, It’s time to unload the mailbag. Readers on social media and throughout my comment sections have sounded off and now it’s my turn to come back with some answers.
The 2024 NHL Entry Draft is already just a week away, with the Stanley Cup Final dragging a bit later than fans expected. The Sphere in Las Vegas will play host to all 32 NHL teams as they hope to land their future stars and leaders. The San Jose Sharks will undoubtedly be selecting Macklin Celebrini from Boston University, the freshman center who dominated the NCAA and was excellent for Canada at the World Juniors despite being just 17. Who else will go at the top of the draft? Is there anyone who could jump into the first round that nobody is talking about?

Islanders Need to Target Jets’ Rutger McGroarty in a Trade

On the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman discussed Winnipeg Jets’ prospect and University of Michigan star, Rutger McGroarty. Friedman states he has heard McGroarty’s name in trade talks due to his decision to return to Michigan for his junior season. While this is unlikely to amount to a trade, the New York Islanders must join the McGroarty sweepstakes.

Welcome to our annual “Do Not Draft” list for the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas. Every year, we identify prospects that will be drafted and drafted very high in some cases that should not be drafted in a certain spot or range.
The goal is to provide you, the reader, insight into the decisions some teams need to make when it’s their turn to draft. Do not think of this as don’t draft the player at all. Most players will go on to long and successful NHL careers. Think of this as there could be better options available rather than drafting said player in a certain spot.
