Anaheim Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf: Hall of Fame Worthy?
November 15, 2023 by Charlie Hiller
As one of the younger franchises in the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks aren’t blessed with a lot of representation in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Currently, only seven players who have ever worn a Ducks uniform have gone on to be enshrined. Of those seven, only Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne are primarily remembered for their tenure in Anaheim.
This could change in the coming years, however. With Ryan Getzlaf announcing his retirement at the end of this season, another Anaheim legend may join them in due time. Getzlaf’s case for the Hockey Hall of Fame will be rife with debate. Even though he’s re-written the franchise record book in Anaheim, Getzlaf’s counting stats in the NHL leave a little to be desired compared to other Hall of Famers. However, his play on the international stage and his impact in a non-traditional market like Anaheim makes a strong argument for his enshrinement.
Ducks’ Early Season Success Won’t Result in Playoffs
November 14, 2023 by Charlie Hiller
With an 8-6 record, the Anaheim Ducks are one of the early surprises in the NHL season. It’s been an impressive one-year turnaround for a team that was looking for their first regulation win this time a season ago. There’s a lot to be encouraged about the Ducks. The young players look comfortable in the NHL, allowing Anaheim to have multiple scoring lines for the first time in years. Lukas Dostal looks like a legitimate number-one goaltender in waiting. And as a whole, the team has bought into the defensive systems implemented by head coach Greg Cronin.

Despite that they’ve only been around for 30 years, the Anaheim Ducks sure do like taking a walk down memory lane. After he spent parts of six seasons with the team, the then-Mighty Ducks brought back Teemu Selanne for the 2005-06 season (and the eight that followed), four years after shipping him to the San Jose Sharks at the 2001 trade deadline.
Former Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle, too, is a retread. He first coached the club for seven seasons after the 2004-05 lockout (a tenure that included winning the 2007 Stanley Cup). He was rehired for 2016-17, guiding the Ducks to the Western Conference Final before being fired again in 2019.
