Revisiting the Wendel Clark for Mats Sundin Trade
by The Old Prof
June 28 is the anniversary of one of the most remarkable trades in Toronto Maple Leafs history. It was the trade that sent Maple Leafs captain and fan-favorite Wendel Clark for a young Swedish center iceman named Mats Sundin.
The trade, at the time, shocked Toronto’s die-hard fans. However, from our perspective a quarter-of-a-century later, it turned out just fine for the Maple Leafs.
Canucks Have an Eye for the Swedes
by Sartaaj Bhullar
I wrote an article discussing the biggest draft day steals for the Vancouver Canucks, and while I was researching for that article, I noticed how many great Swedish players the team has been able to acquire. Perhaps the greatest defenseman in NHL history hit a pair of milestones, with two different teams, on this date. Plus, the Nassau Coliseum hosted a handful of memorable moments, and a current general manager built his Hall of Fame credentials during his playing career. So, let’s take a journey back in time and relive all the great moments from Oct. 24.
Blackhawks & Chelios: Together Again

He fell out of favor with Blackhawks fans shortly after he was traded to the hated Detroit Red Wings, but time has healed those wounds. Chelios was back to the organization as an ambassador in July 2018 and he will be forever remembered as one of the best defensemen in franchise history.
