For the next installment of our San Jose Sharks player grades, we look at defenseman Kyle Burroughs. The 28-year-old Canadian signed with San Jose as a free agent in the 2023 offseason. The Sharks acquired him intending to make him a key defensive-minded blueliner, and while he showed some promise in this regard, he also demonstrated a number of shortcomings, which show that his career is still a work in progress.

On Sept. 13, 2018, the San Jose Sharks made an absolutely shocking trade with the Ottawa Senators. They traded for two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson, as well as forward prospect Francis Perron, in exchange for Chris Tierney, Rudolfs Balcers,Dylan Demelo, and former Sharks draft pick Josh Norris, as well as a 2020 unprotected first-round pick.

Sharks Need to Make a Decision Regarding Blackwood’s Future

The San Jose Sharks acquired goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood last summer, hoping he would solidify the position alongside Kaapo Kahkonen. Before Kahkonen was traded at the trade deadline, goaltending was undoubtedly one of the Sharks’ strengths despite allowing quite a few goals. Most nights, their goaltending kept them in the game, even when they were giving up 40+ shots.
San Jose Sharks Sign Will Smith to Entry-Level Contract

The San Jose Sharks announced on Tuesday morning that they had signed the fourth-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Will Smith, to his entry-level contract. Smith spent the 2023-24 season as a member of the Boston College Eagles and had a phenomenal freshman season. His record-breaking season saw him post a total of 71 points in just 41 games alongside Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault.
