Trade Deadline Update
Anthony Beauvillier was traded to the Nashville Predators for a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Quick Reaction:
I liked Anthony Beauvillier as a player. For a former first-round pick, you could see he was one of the players that had pure skill, but the fit never went as hoped as he was bounced around the lineup and also missed time due to a wrist injury, limiting him to 6 points in 23 games since being acquired by the Vancouver Canucks in November. He will probably be a solid fit with the Nashville Predators as they play a tight, defensive game, and he is a two-way forward, and the Blackhawks did well to get an asset for someone they likely would have let walk in free agency. It works for all involved.
10 Blackhawks Thoughts Heading Into the Trade Deadline
March 7, 2024 by Brooke LoFurno
The NHL Trade deadline is tomorrow (March 8), and the lesson that is continually learned is to expect the unexpected because things change fast. The Chicago Blackhawks are one team that people assume won’t do much, and that may be true, but what’s the fun in that? There are different avenues the Blackhawks can explore, even if it’s not groundbreaking. Here are some last-minute Blackhawks’ thoughts before the trade deadline.
Blackhawks Beat Coyotes to Snap 22-Game Road Losing Streak
March 6, 2024 by Hunter Crowther
There are certain statistics or streaks in sports that when you hear them out loud, they don’t sound real. Anything related to Wayne Gretzky, Wilt Chamberlin, the Harlem Globetrotters, they’re all in that field of “oh come on, that can’t be true.” That’s what it felt like whenever you would hear about the Chicago Blackhawks and their franchise-record 22-game losing streak, which ended March 5 against the Arizona Coyotes with a 5-2 win. Blackhawks’ defenseman Seth Jones opened the scoring on the power play with only his second goal of the season, and Chicago would score three more goals with the man advantage, bumping their power play percentage from 12.7 percent to 14.5 percent. Jones would score the empty-netter at the end of the game to solidify the 5-2 win.
Andreas Athanasiou’s Fit in the Blackhawks Lineup
March 5, 2024 by Gail Kauchak
The Chicago Blackhawks are having a rough go of it this season. While they weren’t supposed to be very good in the first place, it’s been even worse than anticipated. A lot of this has to do with the losses of Taylor Hall (torn ACL) and Corey Perry (work-place misconduct). Another impactful player the Blackhawks have been without since Nov. 9 is Andreas Athanasiou, due to a right groin and hip-related injury. The good news is head coach Luke Richardson indicated on Sunday (Mar. 3) that Athanasiou could be available as soon as the tail end of this upcoming road trip, versus the Washington Capitals on Mar. 9. But where exactly will the speedy forward fit into the lineup? Let’s look at Athanasiou’s previous deployment and the makeup of the existing lineup. From there, we can make some educated guesses of where Athanasiou might be most effective.
