Red Wings Unfiltered: Fans Need to Temper Offseason Ideas
While many have the pipeline dreams, we need to be realistic about potential offseason moves.
If you're a Twitter (X) user following the Red Wings-related things, you're familiar with the flood of offseason suggestions for Steve Yzerman from fans. Some are reasonable, others are a bit out there. But one thing's for certain, Yzerman’s strategic thinking is not to be underestimated. He won't make a move unless it's well thought out and in line with his vision for the organization.
Spending Big Money/ Making Big Moves Likely Not Happening
While Yzerman did go out and get Alex DeBrincat last offseason, fans should not expect him to go out and make a move of that altitude this offseason. Having to give out what will likely be pricey extensions to both Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider (both of which are completely earned), there is a strong chance that those are the biggest money moves that we see Yzerman make. There have been plenty of fans who have called for him to bring in Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and let players like David Perron walk as unrestricted free agents. This sounds great, but at the same time, Stamkos will likely be looking for a hefty salary to finish out his career, and even with the relationship he and Yzerman have from their time spent together in Tampa, it would still take a bit to get him to leave the only organization he has played for in his career.
