It’s Time for the Red Wings to Retire Sergei Fedorov’s No. 91

Over the years, many people (Detroit Red Wings fans in particular) have said Sergei Fedorov‘s number 91 should be hung in the rafters at Little Caesars Arena and retired. With the recent jersey retirements of both Jaromir Jagr and Chris Chelios by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks, respectively, it has further proved that it truly is time that Fedorov’s number needs to be retired by the Red Wings organization.

For the first time in Steve Yzerman’s tenure as general manager (GM) of the Detroit Red Wings, he is positioned to add at the NHL Trade Deadline rather than subtract. The Red Wings hold the first wild card position in the Eastern Conference and have a three point cushion on the second wild card spot. They are fourth in the Atlantic Division and just two points back of third place.

With 24 games remaining on their schedule, the Detroit Red Wings are currently sitting in a playoff spot. Fans in Hockey Town have been dreaming of important games in March for years now and the team has finally delivered. The Red Wings have missed the playoffs in each of the past seven seasons (second-longest active streak in the NHL), but this might just be the year they turn things back around.
