Red Wings Prospect Check-In: Augustine & Buium Rewarded for Strong Seasons
Also, Danielson is on a tear lately.
March has had a number of prospects in the Red Wings system wrapping up their regular seasons and being nominated for awards in their respective leagues thanks to their strong play throughout the season.
G Trey Augustine - Michigan State (Big 10)
Augustine has stood out throughout the 2023-24 season with Michigan State and the United States at the 2024 WJC. He has been the lead man between the pipes for the Spartans while helping them to their first Big 10 regular-season championship. His play in the regular season recently earned him being named a finalist for goaltender of the year in the Big 10.
His play in the Big 10 tournament has also been on point. He helped lead the Spartans to the championship game against their in-state rival, the Michigan Wolverines. In the semi-final game against Ohio State, Augustine stood on his head and helped backstop the Spartans to a 2-1 win while making 36 saves against the Buckeyes.
With Augustine’s play at the level it has been this season, the 19-year-old netminder is a prospect to keep an eye on in the Red Wings system.
D Shai Buium - Denver (NCAA)
Another Red Wings prospect who is up for a major award in his conference, Buium, has been one of the NCHC’s best defensemen all season long and has been named one of the three finalists for the conference’s top defenseman.
