Red Wings Who Could Compete in the 2026 Olympics

Over the recent All-Star break, the NHL officially announced that NHL players will be competing in both the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympic games. The NHL Players Association and the league themselves have come to an agreement with the IIHF that will see the players from the best hockey league in the world finally competing in this best-on-best tournament for the first time since 2014. From February 6-22, 2026 we will finally get to see the very best hockey players in the world all competing in the same tournament once again. Which current and future Red Wings players could compete for their country when the NHL returns to the Olympics in 2026? Let’s take a look at the players who I think have the best chances and give them a rough percentage at competing for their country.
Should the Red Wings Trade Jonatan Berggren?

It’s been an interesting year for Detroit Red Wings prospect Jonatan Berggren. Detroit’s 2018 second-round pick has dominated in the AHL this season—14 goals and 36 points in 33 games—but that hasn’t been enough to warrant a full-time NHL role. When he has been called upon to contribute at the NHL level, he has – Berggren has five points in nine contests, averaging just over 10 minutes of ice time per game. Given the AHL production, lack of NHL ice time, and the rumors, you have to wonder what’s in store for Berggren. Does he have a future in Detroit? Or is he, in fact, a trade chip? Let’s explore this further.

3 Trade Deadline Targets for the Red Wings

With the March 8, 2024 NHL trade deadline looming, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman will have some interesting decisions to make for an organization that is looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Goalie Alex Lyon has continued to exceed all expectations in the top role, but adding another goaltender wouldn’t be a surprise either, with the inconsistency of former starter Ville Husso and backup James Reimer. Still, optimism reigns supreme in Motown that Yzerman will look to add at the deadline. Here’s a look at three players I believe could be a valuable addition, both short and long-term for the team.
