Rangers Have Some Questions to Answer at the Halfway Point of the Season
January 22, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch (Premium Substack Content)
The Rangers have been red-hot as we head through the halfway point of the 2023-24 season. They are more than ready to go all-in and make a push for a Stanley Cup this season, but there are some questions still surrounding the team at the halfway point of their campaign.
New York Rangers Place Nick Bonino On Waivers
January 25, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
On Thursday morning, the New York Rangers placed forward Nick Bonino on waivers. He didn’t practice with the team and is expected to be assigned to the American Hockey League (AHL) if he clears.
Following a loss to the San Jose Sharks, the Rangers received some positive news about forward Filip Chytil, who has missed the last little while with an injury. He has returned to the ice and is skating with his teammates, and while he is only in a non-contact jersey, it’s good news for them. With his return imminent, combined with the team not playing too well as of late, the Rangers decided it was the right time to make some changes to their lineup.
Rangers’ Bye Week Arriving at the Perfect Time
January 25, 2024 by Lucas Standel
As of this writing, the New York Rangers have two more games to play before their bye week and before the NHL All-Star break. They will play a back-to-back before the break, playing the Vegas Golden Knights at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 26, before traveling to Ottawa to face the Senators on Jan. 27. After that game, they will not play again until Feb. 5. This upcoming break comes at a great time for the team, which has been struggling as of late. They lost their game to the last place San Jose Sharks, blowing a 2-0 lead in the third period before eventually losing in overtime. This break will allow the team a mental reset, and hopefully they will come back ready to finish the season on a strong note.
Blake Wheeler Is Running Out of Time to Prove Worth to Rangers
January 24, 2024 by Tom Castro
More than halfway through the 2023-24 season, the New York Rangers still don’t know what they have in the most experienced NHL player on their roster.
No one wearing a Blueshirt this season has played more games than Blake Wheeler’s 1,165 in a career that’s spanned 16 years for three franchises. Yet it’s the 37-year-old right wing, who came to New York as a hyped bargain signing – if there is such a thing – who remains a mystery as to how and if he fits, and whether the Rangers will be rewarded by keeping him in a meaningful role.
