Igor Shesterkin Returning to Vezina Trophy Form for Rangers
January 2, 2024 by Brian Abate
The New York Rangers have an impressive 25-9-1 record and lead the Metropolitan Division as the halfway point in the season approaches. They have found ways to win games despite some key injuries and a rare rough stretch of play from goalie Igor Shesterkin. However, the star goalie has rebounded and put together five consecutive excellent starts, playing at the level he did two years ago when he won the Vezina Trophy.
Analyst Suggests Rangers’ Louis Domingue Drawing Trade Interest
January 2, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The New York Rangers have been among the strongest teams in the NHL to start the 2023-24 season. One of the main reasons for their success has been the strength and consistency of their goaltending tandem in Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick. It helped big time when Shesterkin went down with an injury earlier in the season that their third-string goaltender Louis Domingue was able to provide solid play in his absence. With many teams looking to upgrade their goaltending tandem, it seems as though he has been gaining some interest from teams who aren’t looking to break the bank.
In only one game with the Rangers this season, Domingue allowed one goal and posted a .962 save percentage (SV%) proving he still has what it takes to play in a tandem role with an NHL team.
Rangers News & Rumors: Trouba, Kakko & Tarasenko
January 2, 2024 by Michael DeRosa
In this latest edition of New York Rangers News & Rumors, head coach Peter Laviolette praised defenseman Jacob Trouba‘s play in their recent win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. In other news, Laviolette provided an encouraging update on forward Kaapo Kakko. Lastly, with the Ottawa Senators at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, should the Rangers, a team who could use another top-six winger, consider the possibility of a reunion with Vladimir Tarasenko? Let’s discuss all of this in today’s (Jan. 2) Rangers News & Rumors column now.
To be considered a threat in playoffs, Rangers will need 5-on-5 scoring as PP in playoffs comes only with the most egregious infractions.
