PWHL Sets Themselves Apart with YouTube Broadcasts
While you have to pay to watch most major sports events, the PWHL has a strong thing going with YouTube.
All season, we’ve talked about the great ideas the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has executed during their first season and how some of them, even the NHL, should consider. From the “jailbreak,” where a shorthanded team can get their penalized player out of the box if they score, to the 3-2-1 point system, they’re innovating how hockey is played.
With all this talk about Bally Sports and the struggles they’re dealing with, including the recent debacle with Comcast, some people are wondering how to watch their teams. Obviously, that could change in the coming seasons because these leagues always want to make money, but PWHL fans aren’t scrambling to watch games right now. I would say the NHL should strongly consider this, but since all of their games are currently on stations you have to pay for either through your cable company or a streaming service, it’s unlikely they would be willing to pull that revenue stream or add a free counterpart.
