PWHL Minnesota Power Play Steps Up in Win
February 15, 2024 by Mariah Stark (Holland)
On a snowy evening in Minnesota in front of a crowd of 6,276, where it’s been an oddly snowless winter, PWHL Minnesota hosted PWHL Ottawa at the Xcel Energy Center on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, which was also a night devoted to Sophie’s Squad, an organization that raises awareness for mental health.
Unfortunately for PWHL Minnesota, they were without Taylor Heise and will be for the foreseeable future as she was injured on Sunday, Feb. 11, during the final game of the Rivalry Series, in which Team USA lost 6-1 to Team Canada, who also won the series 4-3. That same evening, PWHL Minnesota made history by trading Susanna Tapani and Abby Cook to PWHL Boston in exchange for Sophie Jacques.

Team USA Falls in Rivalry Series Against Team Canada
February 12, 2024 by Mariah Stark (Holland)
It may have been Super Bowl Sunday in most of the United States, but in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the Xcel Energy Center, it was Game 7 of the Rivalry Series between the United States and Canada. Each team comprised players from all six Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) teams. Of the six PWHL teams, PWHL Minnesota led the way with the most players on Team USA with eight.
The game started fast-paced for both sides before Team Canada jumped to an early lead. They held a 1-0 lead throughout the first before adding to it in the second period. Despite some strong chances, Team USA struggled to convert, and Team Canada climbed to a 3-0 lead before Team USA finally got on the board to make it 3-1. However, just as they got some hope, Team Canada stepped up and made it 4-1 to end the period.

On the evening of Feb. 11, the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) had its first-ever trade, this one between Minnesota and Boston, both of which hold a playoff spot still in the early stages of the season.
