Prospect Round-Up: Greig Shining Bright in NHL
Wondering how your favorite Senators prospect is doing? If they are a forward and play within the Senators system, here is your answer!
The Ottawa Senators don’t necessarily have a blue-chip prospect that everybody has their eyes on, but they do have plenty of players showing promise. This edition of Prospect Round-Up will highlight the forward prospects playing throughout the Senators’ pro system, including the NHL, AHL, and ECHL.

Ridly Greig - 3G-6A-9P in 17 NHL Games
Ridly Greig has been a full-time NHLer this season and isn’t necessarily a prospect anymore, but as a rookie, it still makes sense to include him here. Despite missing time with a high-ankle sprain, Greig has proven to be one of the most important players in the Senators’ lineup.
With the absence of Shane Pinto for the first half of the season there was a lot of dependence on Greig to insert some quality depth into the lineup and he has done just that. He seems to improve each line he plays on, whether it be his gritty style of play or his offensive impacts, he has had a fantastic season so far.
Zack Ostapchuk - 5G-2A-7P in 24 AHL Games
The highly anticipated transition to the pro level for Zack Ostapchuk has been a bit underwhelming so far on the scoresheet, but he has been playing well despite not getting all of the results he may have hoped for. He has showcased the ability to play an offensive game, including a two-goal game in early December.
There is no reason to worry about his production at this time. He has been playing well on the defensive side of things, plus he has been playing a physical game that helps his team. The Belleville Senators have been struggling as a whole, and there is reason to believe he can still elevate his game more this season.
Angus Crookshank - 10G-11A-21P in 24 AHL Games
It has been a great season for Angus Crookshank so far, which has earned him a call-up to the NHL in the absence of a few players out with injury. His scoring and tenacity is something the NHL club needed in their lineup and through two NHL games so far, he has brought just that.
Crookshank is leading Belleville in goals and points and has been without a doubt the best skater on the team. A lot of fans of the team were waiting for this opportunity to see him be given a shot at the NHL and after a quiet debut in Vegas, he had a fantastic second game against the Arizona Coyotes where he scored his first NHL goal and had an impact physically, most notably getting under the skin of Jason Zucker all game.
Egor Sokolov - 6G-6A-12P in 24 AHL Games
There was an uproar from many when Egor Sokolov got placed on waivers at the beginning of the season, including myself, but it has proven to be a fair decision. He has struggled to score in the AHL. While he is fourth on the team in scoring, things need to be better for him. The whole team can’t score, but you need to be able to depend on your veteran guys to do that, and Sokolov being one of them, isn’t.
Philippe Daoust - 3G-4A-7P in 9 AHL/ECHL Games
After a season-ending injury last season, Philippe Daoust was eager to get back into the swing of things and improve on last year’s totals. He hasn’t suited up for many games so far but has been impactful in the ones he is playing in. The goal right now is consistency, and if he can find a permanent spot in the lineup and he can continue to develop, there is promise for this prospect.
Tyler Boucher - 0 Games
Ahh, Tyler. The need for a healthy stretch of games is so important for a player like Boucher. He has shown a lot of promise while playing, reports said he had a great summer and looked good in the rookie camp and preseason, but after a groin injury that should hold him out for a few days…we are over three months removed and Boucher has yet to play a hockey game. There is not much else to add here other than how crucial it is for his hockey career to play some games soon.
Roby Jarventie - 4G-8A-12P in 21 AHL/NHL Games
Jarventie earned a 7-game stint in the NHL after a great start to the AHL season, and while he didn’t produce much, only adding one assist, he showed management that he is close to being ready for the task. In the AHL he has been good with 11 points in 14 games.
He has been given the task of playing center which has been a tough transition, but he has proven to be able to handle it. Once he gets more comfortable or goes back to the wing, it could certainly lead to more production.
Cole Reinhardt - 2G-6A-8P in 18 AHL Games
The production is decent for Reinhardt, but what he really brings to the table is defensive, gritty play. If you are more familiar with the NHL roster, think of a player like Parker Kelly. Reinhardt is on a good path with his development, and will certainly be someone to keep an eye on for any upcoming recalls.
The next edition of this series will be centered around the defensemen and forwards that play in the Senators’ system. Be sure to leave a comment on which prospect has impressed you the most, and the one you were expecting more from!
