Tommy Novak’s Contract Extension is a Win for the Predators
March 5, 2024 by Emma Lingan
After much speculation that he would be traded before the March 8 NHL trade deadline, the Nashville Predators announced on Monday that they had signed forward Tommy Novak to a three-year, $10.5 million ($3.5 million AAV) contract that will begin in 2024-25. Several reports had linked Novak to contending playoff teams, including the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers. Nashville general manager Barry Trotz said Novak was a player he “couldn’t let go for nothing,” indicating that he would be traded before the deadline if a deal with the Predators wasn’t reached.
Rangers Had Interest in Predators’ Tommy Novak Before Extension

The New York Rangers have been rather quiet as we head toward the March 8 trade deadline, but a recent report proves they have been doing their due diligence on players around the league. The Nashville Predators announced a new extension for forward Tommy Novak, which was a three-year deal worth $3.5 million per season. Before he chose to re-sign with the Predators, the Rangers were reportedly interested in acquiring his services and bringing him in for a postseason run. There isn’t any word as to what the return could have been, just that the Rangers had been keeping their eye on him.

Glass had just been named the “First Star” of the game after recording a hat trick in the first multi-goal performance of his NHL career. Bally Sports South’s Kara Hammer had to pause her interview questions so as not to be drowned out by the deafening cheers. As Glass absorbed the sights and sounds of the moment, a single tear rolled down his cheek. After all, his journey to this moment had not been an easy one; at times, in fact, it felt like the moment would never come.
