The Ottawa Senators have signed center Shane Pinto to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $3.75 million. This comes after plenty of speculation about a trade request, negotiation stalemate, and other rumours.

Ottawa Senators general manager Steve Staios was busy on the first day of free agency this year. The goal was to add a defensive-minded right-shot defenceman, and depth players, and create cap space to do all of the things he needed to do. With a big trade with the Washington Capitals and three free-agent signings, Staios did just that.
Capitals Acquire Jakob Chychrun From Senators for Nick Jensen

The Ottawa Senators have traded defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals for defenseman Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round pick. Chychrun was acquired at the 2023 Trade Deadline for a first-round pick and two second-round picks. He had 16 goals and 46 points in 94 career games. Jensen, a defensive defenseman, had one goal and 14 points in 78 games with the Capitals. He has 19 goals and 115 assists across his 562 career regular season games split between the Capitals and Detroit Red Wings.
Senators’ Brannstrom & Kelly Not Qualified, Will Become UFAs

Qualifying offers for restricted free agents were due on June 30, and there were a lot of players the Ottawa Senators had to make decisions on. Restricted free agents (RFA) who don’t receive a qualifying offer will become unrestricted free agents (UFA) on July 1. The Senators’ restricted free agents that received their qualifying offer were Shane Pinto, Egor Sokolov, Lassi Thomson, Mads Sogaard, and Kevin Mandolese. Erik Brannstrom, Boris Katchouk, and Parker Kelly did not receive one and will become UFAs.
