Penguins Looking To Have a Productive Summer
Kyle Dubas has some work to do
It was fun while it lasted, but the Pittsburgh Penguins’ last minute push for the playoffs has ended. For the past three weeks, the Penguins have been playing their best hockey of the season. It was a fun distraction from all the problems that have plagued Pittsburgh all year.
Even if they had made a playoff appearance, it is highly unlikely that they would have advanced past the first round. Now with Sidney Crosby and the core another year older and Jake Guentzel gone, the Penguins have some questions to answer. Overall, it was a disappointing season that proved first-year general manager Kyle Dubas has his work cut out for him this offseason.
What Should Dubas Do First?
While it is highly unlikely that Pittsburgh will make a change at head coach this summer, there is a good chance Mike Sullivan will be put on notice heading into 2024-25. The Penguins have now missed the playoffs for two years in a row and have not advanced past the first round since 2018. In the last few weeks the players have proved that they still respond to Sullivan’s coaching, but it is hard not to wonder why it took so long.
