A recent report from Nick Kypreos suggests that Nashville Predators forward Ryan O’Reilly pushed hard for the team to trade for Mitch Marner prior to GM Barry Trotz going buck wild in free agency. It is unclear if Marner would have waived had a trade been proposed between the two teams but the idea that the Predators had/have been linked to Marner is not new.

Predators GM Trotz Showing What He Can Do When Not Under Lamoriello

Free agency has begun, and the signings are coming in hot. Even the New York Islanders, a team that rarely makes a move, got in on the party, signing Anthony Duclair and re-signing Mike Reilly. While they’ve been active, the Nashville Predators are arguably the busiest team so far. Just look at all the moves they’ve made one day into free agency.
Nashville Predators Re-Sign Alexandre Carrier to 3-Year Deal

The Nashville Predators have re-signed right-handed defenseman Alexandre Carrier to a three-year contract worth $3.75 million per season. The 27-year-old has 233 games of NHL experience including the postseason, all with Nashville. Carrier, who had 20 points in 73 games in 2023-24 along with a plus-7 rating, was utilized at even strength and the penalty kill quite often but seldom got chances on the power play.
