Zach Hyman scored the third most goals in the regular season, finishing with 54, and continued to score at a torrid pace in the first game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 7-4. Powered by his first career playoff hat trick, the Oilers earned their first Game 1 victory in nine attempts, last grabbing a 1-0 series lead back in 2017 against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed their starting lineup versus the Los Angeles Kings for Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series. Evander Kane and Dylan Holloway are in, Derek Ryan and Connor Brown are out. That may come as a surprise to some fans, considering talk of Kane’s injury and Brown’s picking up his game. That said, it’s a positive sign that the Oilers have incredible roster depth and the luxury to sit two effective, but healthy players.

There are more than a few fans and insiders asking questions about Evander Kane‘s revelation that he’s dealing with a nagging sports hernia issue ahead of Game 1 in the series between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings are set to match up in the opening round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Edmonton, who started the season as one of the worst teams in the Western Conference before making the coaching change from Jay Woodcroft to Kris Knoblauch, finished second in the Pacific Division with a 49-27-6 record. Los Angeles, who also made a midseason coaching change from Todd McLellan to interim Jim Hiller, were a playoff-likely team the entire way. In an unpredictable season for these two teams, this series could be one of the most entertaining of them all.
