Oilers’ Bad Habits Return in 6-5 Overtime Loss to Bruins
February 22, 2024 by Brian Swane
The Edmonton Oilers dropped a 6-5 decision to the Boston Bruins at Rogers Place on Wednesday (Feb. 22) when Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy scored 3:10 into overtime. They trailed 4-1 late in the second period, and were down 5-4 with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation before Oilers winger Zach Hyman scored to force sudden death.
Oilers Should Pursue Guentzel & Tanev Trades at Trade Deadline
February 21, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers should be planning to go all-in for a Stanley Cup this season, and there are plenty of options available to them to give them the best chance of winning it all. Two of the biggest names heading into the trade deadline are targets the Oilers should have in mind as they would give them a great opportunity to win. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel and Calgary Flames’ defender Chris Tanev are two of the most sought-after players heading into the 2024 Trade Deadline, and the Oilers have an opportunity to make a deal for both of them. While it will be a bidding war, as several teams will be interested in both Guentzel and Tanev, the Oilers should be all over them.
“Perfect Fit” Willing to Waive No-Trade at Deadline to Join Oilers
February 20, 2024 by Jim Parsons
The Edmonton Oilers are riding high on the success of their top six, featuring the often-unstoppable blend of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. With Corey Perry and Evander Kane in the mix, they boast a formidable offensive arsenal. But, there’s one thing missing — a legitimate scoring threat on the wing of their second line. To bolster their middle six, especially alongside Draisaitl and Kane, the Oilers are exploring potential trade options. Jake Guentzel may be the dream fit, but uncertainties surrounding his availability, acquisition cost, and injury situation make him a bit of a question mark.
Oilers Don’t Need to Add a Goalie at 2024 Trade Deadline
February 20, 2024 by Dale Bochon
For the majority of the 2023-24 NHL Season, I’ve been thinking the Oilers needed to upgrade their goaltending to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup. Now, I don’t think they do. There’s enough depth and experience with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard that I think they can do the job.
I still believe they need a #1 D and a goalie. Mainly some one to take over Nurse’s minutes and move nurse down to # 3 pairing. He still makes too many bad decisions.
