January 27, 2024 by Jim Parsons
In an Edmonton Oilers news and rumors update, Corey Perry makes his debut for the team on Saturday afternoon. How will be perform in a third-line role? Meanwhile, trade talk has quieted down because of the 15-game win streak, but is there some chatter about defenseman Brett Kulak? Calvin Pickard posted a shutout, and it will be intriguing to see how his strong play affects the team’s plans at the deadline. Finally, how good have the Edmonton Oilers been since Mattias Ekholm‘s arrival?
Brett Kulak Suggested as Oilers’ Trade Deadline Casualty
January 27, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers bounced back in a big way after their horrendous start to the 2023-24 season. Heading into tonight’s (Jan. 27) matchup against the Nashville Predators, the Oilers are riding a 15-game winning streak, which is not only a franchise-best, but it’s among the greatest streaks in NHL history. While the Oilers recently added veteran forward Corey Perry on a one-year contract, who will make his debut appearing on the third line tonight, the Oilers likely aren’t done adding assets as they look to bolster their roster in hopes of a deep playoff run. With their lack of cap space holding them back from being able to make any big moves as of yet, Frank Seravalli name-dropped a current Oilers’ defender as a potential trade casualty.Â
Oilers’ Corey Perry Marks Third Redemption Story in McDavid Era
January 27, 2024 by Sean Panganiban
The Edmonton Oilers got a little more gritty, greasy, and skilled by bringing Corey Perry into the mix. Despite being 38 years old, he’s still a feisty competitor, having won at every level of hockey and has won individual hardware, capturing the Rocket Richard and Hart Trophy in 2011 and some would argue he has a shot at the Hockey Hall of Fame once his career is over.
Calvin Pickard’s Solid Play Creating Unexpected Problem for Oilers
January 26, 2024 by Jim Parsons
How can the Edmonton Oilers find any negative in the way goaltender Calvin Pickard has stepped up for the team in a backup role this season? The answer is, they can’t. The fact that a netminder who wasn’t expected to see a single game for Edmonton this season has become a legitimate option to back up Stuart Skinner is fantastic. That doesn’t mean Pickard’s solid play doesn’t pose a slight issue, or a possible future dilemma for the team.
