Oilers Are Massive Winners of Expected NHL Cap Rise in 2024-25

The NHL’s salary cap is finally expected to rise significantly next season (2024-25) after a few years of minimal increases. The Board of Governors meeting estimated that the cap will rise to $87.675 million next season for an additional $4.175 million in space.
Contenders and teams that have been pushing the cap limits for years will benefit the most, like the Edmonton Oilers.
Oilers Said to Be Exploring Trade Market for Philip Broberg

According to NHL insider and ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes, the Edmonton Oilers are actively exploring the trade market for defenseman Philip Broberg. Weekes writes on Tuesday, “I’m told the @EdmontonOilers are exploring potential Trade options on young D Broberg. Given the #LetsGoOilers Cap situation, it would likely have to be dollar for dollar transaction.”
It was later learned that Broberg asked for permission to seek a trade.
Oilers’ Pros & Cons of Potential Reunion With Patrick Maroon

The Edmonton Oilers came into the 2023-24 season with high hopes, as they were considered a potential Stanley Cup favorite, having almost taken out the Vegas Golden Knights, who went on to win it all in the 2023 playoffs. With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl set to take another massive step forward and the team having more depth than it’s had in at least a decade, the Oilers were ready to take the league by storm.
One name that the Oilers could look at is former Oiler and current Minnesota Wild forward Patrick Maroon, who was a fan favorite during his time in Edmonton and had his best offensive seasons alongside McDavid on the first line. Here are some pros and cons if the Oilers decided to re-acquire Maroon and add some physical play to their bottom six, all while boosting morale in the dressing room.
