February 29, 2024 by Justin Giampietro (Premium THW Flyers Substack Content)
The Philadelphia Flyers are just under 75% of the way through their season. And still, they’re in a playoff spot. Before we get to the final crunch of the season, let’s revisit how individual players have done during the third quarter of the season.
Flyers’ Cal Petersen Placed on Waivers; Felix Sandstrom Called Up
February 28, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
On Feb. 28, the Philadelphia Flyers put backup goaltender Cal Petersen on waivers, making it so he’ll be playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) for a bit, pending a future call-up or another team claiming his $5 million cap hit, which is unlikely. His contract expires after the 2024-25 NHL season.
Eric Lindros Trade Revisited
February 28, 2024 by Declan Schroeder
Two teams made deals for him, but only one could end up with “The Next One”.
It’s been over 30 years since the Quebec Nordiques traded Eric Lindros — a once-in-a-generation player with outstanding offensive prowess, a bone-crunching physical presence, strong skating skills, and stupendously soft hands — to the Philadelphia Flyers. The whole package, Lindros possessed a unique skill set and had been compared to Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
Flyers Overcome Power Outage in 6-2 Win vs. Lightning
February 28, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
The Philadelphia Flyers had one of the most bizarre games in their history early in their contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Flyers Flash: Need to Turn it Around
February 27, 2024 by Justin Giampietro (Premium THW Flyers Substack Content)
In this week’s edition of Flyers Flash, we examine the Flyers’ 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, their heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers, and the catastrophe that was their 7-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Flyers’ Rebuild Could Depend on Reclamation Projects
February 26, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
The Philadelphia Flyers have made it apparent that their rebuild is anything but ordinary. In a position to make the postseason in the first “official” season of their rebuilding process, a lot has gone right to contribute to their success. And that has a lot to do with their ability to find reclamation projects — players with low value that become important with some time.
Former Flyer Nick Schultz Discusses Team’s Present, Future
February 25, 2024 by Andrew McGuinness
It’s been almost seven years since Nick Schultz skated in his 1,069th and final NHL game. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native is most known for his time with the Minnesota Wild. After all, he was the franchise’s second pick in their inaugural NHL Draft in 2000, once served as team captain, and still sits third in the franchise’s all-time games played list, dressing for 743 games in 10 seasons.
