Today in Hockey History: Nov. 24
This date in National Hockey League history was very eventful in both Detroit and Philadelphia. In addition, a pair of Hall of Famers hung up their skates, an all-time great goaltender had multiple memories, and there was the very rare brother versus brother goal scored. So, let’s begin our daily journey back in time to relive all the best moments Nov. 24 has given us.
The NHL’s Most Unbreakable Playoff Records
by Andrew Forbes
A while back we sat down together and opened the NHL’s record book in search of some of the game’s most unbreakable records. While Wayne Gretzky’s name is found throughout the history of the game, it was decided that other marks, including Darryl Sittler’s 10-point game, Bobby Orr’s 110-point season and Glenn Hall’s consecutive games played records were also unachievable in today’s game.
In response, folks wrote back their thoughts on NHL records that won’t be surpassed including some from single playoff seasons and career playoff numbers. So, with that in mind, here’s a look at 10 of the NHL’s most unbreakable playoff records.
Remembering Viktor Tikhonov: A Hockey Legend
Most North American hockey observers remember Viktor Tikhonov as a harsh taskmaster, who ruled over his players like a drill sergeant, barking out orders and letting them know who was in charge. Underneath that gruff exterior was a brilliant hockey mind who laid the groundwork for one of the prominent international hockey powerhouses that revolutionized the sport.
Today in Hockey History: Nov. 23
A pair of Hockey Hall of Famers scored their 600th goals on this date in National Hockey League history. There were also countless memories for both teams in New York City, and the hockey world mourned the passing of one of the all-time great head coaches. So, let’s hop aboard the THW time machine to revisit all the best moments from Nov. 23.

The line consisted of three players: Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, and Rene Robert. In this post, I’ll share seven cool things about that famous line.
Pittsburgh Penguins’ All-Time Greatest Lines
In its 104-year history, the National Hockey League has seen some phenomenal players, and fans have been blessed enough to see these players join forces as linemates. Some of these lines have been branded with titles to make them even more memorable. Famous ones include the Buffalo Sabres “French Connection” of Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, and Rene Robert, or the Philadelphia Flyers’ “Legion of Doom” consisting of John LeClair, Eric Lindros, and Mikael Renberg.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had the same luxury since they joined the league in 1967. We’ll run down some of the most notable Pens lines to take the ice.
