It appeared as though the Washington Capitals may be in line for a lottery pick after a slow start to the season, but they have improved drastically as of late and could be in store for one final run in the Alex Ovechkin era. One of their biggest weaknesses entering the season, however, was their depth down the middle, and that has become even more of an issue now that Nicklas Backstrom has been placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).
A Look Back on the 5 Worst Teams in NHL History

The 1974-75 Washington Capitals add to this list as another expansion team that had a train wreck of a first year. Their point percentage of .131 is the worst in NHL history. Backup goalie Michel Belheumer, who led the team with a 5.38 GAA, posted a record of 0-24-3. To start the season, the Capitals lost their first 37 road games.
Capitals Have a Lot to Look Forward to With AHL’s Hershey Bears

The Hershey Bears faced the Bridgeport Islanders in a home-and-home series matchup between the best and worst teams in the Eastern Conference in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Bears didn’t play down to their competition and took care of business, beating the Islanders 5-4 and then making a statement with a 4-0 shutout road win.
