Meet the New Canucks: Jake DeBrusk
July 1, 2024 by Matthew Zator
After a bunch of big names were signed by other teams, including Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov with the Boston Bruins, general manager Patrik Allvin got his day going with the announcement of former Bruin Jake DeBrusk signing a seven-year deal worth $5.5 million average annual value (AAV). Shortly after that, he added two other Bruins, Danton Heinen and Derek Forbort, and Nashville Predators bruiser Kiefer Sherwood on short-term contracts. Clearly, Allvin has made it a point to add more size and physicality to his lineup as all four of his signings so far are over 6-foot-0 and have the propensity to hit.
In the first edition of Meet the New Canucks, we are going to focus on Allvin’s biggest and most lucrative signing, DeBrusk, who is joining only his second team in the NHL.

Meet the New Canucks: Kiefer Sherwood
July 1, 2024 by Lukas Bernasiewicz
After breaking open the bank for Jake DeBrusk on a long-term contract, the Vancouver Canucks added a depth piece in free agency by signing former Nashville Predators forward Kiefer Sherwood to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.5 million. Sherwood is a 29-year-old forward who was originally an undrafted free agent signed out of college by the Anaheim Ducks.
Oil Kings’ Parker Alcos & His Potential Future With the Canucks
July 2, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The 2024 NHL Entry Draft has now come and gone, and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL) had two players selected. Forward Adam Jecho and defenceman Parker Alcos were drafted, Jecho by the St. Louis Blues in the third round and Alcos by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round. Alcos’ rookie campaign with the Oil Kings was impressive as he immediately stepped into a big role and was able to score one goal and add 14 assists for 15 points through 67 games. His ability to shut down top competition, block shots, and have the confidence to carry the puck into the zone was what caught the eye of many scouts around the NHL, and the Canucks used their sixth-round selection to add him to their prospect pool.
