3 Reasons Why Kent Johnson Should Be in the Blue Jackets’ Top-6
February 8, 2024 by Mark Scheig
The 2023-24 season for Kent Johnson hasn’t gone the way that he thought it would to this point. As the Blue Jackets prepare to start play post bye week, he is one of many players who have had a subpar season.
With just 32 games left to play this season, the Blue Jackets have no shot of the playoffs. However, the games do carry meaning for other reasons. Welcome to Part 1 of our post All-Star Game mini series. In this set of articles, we’re going to highlight things that need to happen for the Blue Jackets down the stretch of the season to try to carry some momentum into an offseason that could be full of massive change.
Blue Jackets’ 2013 Draft Failure Was Result of Mismanagement
February 6, 2024 by William Espy
The 2013 NHL Entry Draft was an important one at the time for the Columbus Blue Jackets organization. New general manager Jarmo Kekalainen had just taken over the team alongside a relatively new President of Hockey Operations, John Davidson, who had been with the team since October 2012. Kekalainen was the first European general manager in NHL history, and the duo had three first-round draft picks to make an impact early in their tenure.
Blue Jackets’ Boone Jenner: The Epitome of Consistency
February 4, 2024 by Mark Scheig
It was an All-Star Game that Boone Jenner would never forget. Going back to his hometown, he put on a show by scoring a goal in each game Saturday helping Team McDavid in their efforts to win the final. Although the team fell just short, he showed on a national stage why his invite was more than deserved.
Blue Jackets’ Fifth Line Is Their Real All-Star in 2023-24
February 4, 2024 by Nicholas Arnold
Well, it is the All-Star break, which means we get a bit of a break in the action and can really look around to assess how things are going in the 2023-24 season. In a phrase, “not great.” While I could sum it up with that, I should probably add a few more words to this piece.
On paper, the Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star was Boone Jenner, and he did well representing the team in the festivities. However, this season, he has not been the runaway for the team’s most valuable player award. Honestly, no one has really stood out as the team’s undisputed best player. Their real All-Star has been the Blue Jackets’ fanbase, as their support has mostly stayed strong during another tough season.
Blue Jackets' Writer Mark Scheig Discusses David Jiricek
January 31, 2024 by William Espy (Premium THW Substack Content)
Blue Jackets credentialed writer and PHWA member Mark Scheig joins me to discuss the Jiricek news, the organization’s management, and much more!
There has been a lot of attention on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the national media lately for all of the wrong reasons. One of the biggest concerns has been the handling of top prospect defenseman David Jiricek.
Blue Jackets’ Laine Releases Statement Prioritizing Mental Health
January 29, 2024 by Mark Scheig
On the same day it was announced that Blue Jackets’ forward Patrik Laine was entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, he took to Instagram and shared a statement.
Laine’s statement serves as a reminder of just how important mental health and well being is. That takes precedence over anything else especially a game.
