After back-to-back wins against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals, the Toronto Maple Leafs looked to carry that momentum over against the Dallas Stars. Overall, it is fair to say that they did, as they defeated the Stars by a 4-1 final score. When noting that the Stars are expected to be one of the top teams in the NHL this season, this was a big win for the Leafs. Let’s discuss three notable takeaways from the contest now.
McCabe Injury Opens the Door for Maple Leafs’ Benoit, Lagesson

It shouldn’t be surprising when fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs wake up on Friday to see either Simon Benoit called up to the NHL roster again or William Lagesson getting a shot from his AHL post after Jake McCabe was injured on Oct. 27 in the team’s 4-1 win in Dallas.
The 30-year-old McCabe played just 10 seconds against the Dallas Stars on Thursday before he was forced to leave the game and did not return with what the team is calling a lower-body injury (LBI).
Tracking the Maple Leafs Core Four After 6 Games

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ core four of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares include four talented forwards who showcase their talent together in the team’s top two lines. They are also fixtures on the Maple Leafs’ special teams.
Management has made a heavy financial investment in this quartet of stars. While it’s unusual around the NHL, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander together take up just under one-half (about 49 percent) of the team’s salary cap.
