Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews scored his 65th goal of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In doing so, he tied Alex Ovechkin for the most goals in a season among active players. Matthews paces the NHL with 65 goals, 12 more than Sam Reinhart and 13 more than Zach Hyman.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner is approaching the final year of his six-year contract, valued at an average annual value (AAV) of $10.9 million. As he eyes unrestricted free agency next summer, it’s likely he wants to stay with the Maple Leafs, but there are questions about whether he’ll explore the market and if the team can afford him.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have successfully punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. While the 2023 postseason saw them win their first series since 2004, the run was short lived as they lost to the Florida Panthers in five games in the second round.
Mitch Marner Climbing the Maple Leafs’ All-Time Assists Ladder

Mitch Marner made the most of his return to the ice last night with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his first game back after sustaining an ankle injury on March 7, he registered an assist that contributed to the team’s win over the Montreal Canadiens. Despite an extended layoff, he played over 17 minutes in the game. He was a welcome sight for the team as it heads toward the end of the regular season and into the playoffs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have the odds stacked against them heading into the postseason, but that doesn’t mean they’re not confident in their ability to make a deep run. They made some deadline acquisitions, bringing in Connor Dewar, Ilya Lyubushkin, and Joel Edmundson to bolster their lineup. They have a strong offensive team with enough depth to surprise some teams. With that being said, they will soon have to shift their focus onto the offseason and begin building a competitive team for the 2024-25 season.
