Martin Necas Is the Kings' Dream Offseason Acquisition
After falling in Round 1 to the Edmonton Oilers once again, the Los Angeles Kings have entered the offseason with an inkling of a massive trade.
The Kings made the biggest splash of the 2023 offseason, acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois for draft capital and young assets. With Dubois having a disappointing season and the team's patience likely running short, general manager Rob Blake may decide he needs to make another big move.
While the Kings' top priority should be goaltending, they should still leave as many options open, one of them being Martin Necas. The team is going to be tight to the salary cap ceiling, so adding Necas and a top goaltender will be difficult, but not impossible. Bringing Necas to Los Angeles will ultimately come down to how the front office believes regarding the current roster and how goaltending should be addressed.
If the front office is confident in the current group and believes no major changes should be made, a Necas trade will likely comprise draft picks, young players, and prospects. This could be the Kings' 2024 or 2025 first-round picks, a combination of other mid-round picks, or players such as Ryan Conmy, Arthur Kaliyev, or Alex Turcotte. If the team wants to shake up the roster we could see players such as Alex Laferriere, Jordan Spence or even Michael Anderson be names brought up.
Why is Necas a Fit?
The best part about acquiring Necas is he would solve so many of the Kings' concerns. Since the team shifted from rebuilding to contending, winning has prioritized development. This has left young players like Turcotte, Samuel Fagemo, and Akil Thomas to fight even harder to join the NHL lineup.
