Maple Leafs and Flames Held Trade Talks Over Big D-Man
November 10, 2023 by Jim Parsons
It has been a busy few days for the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs. Just before the Maple Leafs announced defenseman John Klingberg’s sidelining due to injury (the assumption is that the injury reports are true), rumors of trade discussions with the Calgary Flames had surfaced. Hockey analyst and insider Kevin Weekes revealed that the Maple Leafs had been in contact with the Flames regarding defenseman …
Remembering Phil Kessel’s Time With the Maple Leafs
November 10, 2023 by The Old Prof
Phil Kessel is an enigma. He’s nothing if not a complex and seemingly contradictory person with an equally complex NHL career.
Kessel doesn’t look much like a hockey player; however, his quick skating (true) and excellent shot (very true) have made him a successful scorer in the NHL. At the same time, his playing style was unpredictable and inconsistent. He’s been a mixture of both hockey brilliance and frustration.
3 Reasons Maple Leafs Fans Are Frustrated
November 10, 2023 by The Old Prof
This season, and it’s probably always been like this, being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan has been an emotional roller coaster ride. Despite the brilliance of Auston Matthews, who’s on pace for a historic goal-scoring season, and the revelation of William Nylander, who has set a franchise record for the beginning of the season scoring, there’s tons of frustration with being a Maple Leafs fan.
If you read the comments of Maple Leafs fans on Facebook pages and at the end of posts written on The Hockey Writers and other venues, it’s easy enough to circumscribe the issues that are making fans crazy with frustration.
Maple Leafs Keefe Needs to Go if Sweden Trip Isn’t a BIG Success
November 9, 2023 by Spencer Lazary
The Toronto Maple Leafs need help. They are different this season but also similar to what we have seen in the past. Their defence is atrocious, and like the last 50 years, are in desperate need of a true number one defenceman. It’s as though every management regime in recent memory has forgotten to build their blue line while attempting to load up on forwards. Something needs to change fast.
Many have argued that a new general manager (GM) owes his coach a trade before he thinks about firing them. However, that might not be the case for new GM Brad Treliving; he needs to take a very long look at his team and how things have gone since head coach Sheldon Keefe was hired in 2019. This means that Keefe’s job should be in jeopardy, and a decision could be made before American Thanksgiving (Nov. 24).
Insider Won’t Rule Out Maple Leafs as Landing Spot for Kane
November 9, 2023 by Michael DeRosa
After receiving offseason hip surgery, star forward Patrick Kane is closer to returning and has begun talking to teams because of it. Naturally, the soon-to-be 35-year-old is creating a lot of buzz in the hockey world about where he might end up.
In a recent article for The Athletic, Chris Johnston listed the Toronto Maple Leafs as one of the potential landing spots for Kane (from Johnston: What I’m hearing about potential Patrick Kane landing spots, The Athletic, 11/8/2023). It is certainly intriguing to hear that the Maple Leafs are gaining some traction as a possible destination for Kane. As a result, let’s dive into this topic more.
