Maple Leafs’ Swedish Players Get a Global Series Homecoming
November 15, 2023 by The Old Prof
The Toronto Maple Leafs have four players who will be returning home to play in Sweden this week. Calle Jarnkrok was born in Gavle, about 175 kilometers north of Stockholm where the Maple Leafs will play two games this coming weekend. William Lagesson and John Klingberg were both born in Gothenburg, which is on the opposite coast of Sweden from Stockholm about 475 kilometers away.
Then there is William Nylander, who was born in Calgary, Alberta when his dad Michael Nylander was playing for the Flames. While he was born in Canada, Nylander has dual Swedish/Canadian citizenship and has played internationally for Sweden winning an IIHF World Championship in 2017.
Maple Leafs’ Potential Zadorov Trade Makes Klingberg Expendable
November 15, 2023 by Peter Baracchini
There was a lot going on in the Maple Leafs win game against the Calgary Flames however, it was what transpired postgame that generated a lot of buzz online. It was reported by ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes that Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov requested a trade per his agent, Dan Milstein. He would post this clip before the news broke.
In addition, they needed some stability as the John Klingberg experiment might be coming to an end as it hasn’t gone as expected. With the interest in Zadorov, Klingberg could easily be expendable.
Remembering Maple Leafs’ Goalie Jonathan Bernier
November 14, 2023 by The Old Prof
In my recent post where I researched the criteria that measured the characteristics of good NHL goalies and then applied it to evaluate the Toronto Maple Leafs’ best goalie since 1990, my research allowed me to read more about goalie Jonathan Bernier and his time in Toronto. He played for the team for three seasons, from 2013 to 2016.
What became interesting to me was that a number of hockey writers and pundits had written that they believed Bernier should be considered one of the best goalies in recent team history, and they might have a point. In this post, I’ll expand on that point of view.
