The Maple Leafs won again, and William Nylander was the star of the show… again.
While it didn’t require a comeback victory to take home the two points, the game did need extra time as the feisty Wild wouldn’t go away quietly.
It would be great if you’d share the THW Maple Leafs Substack with your friends and family so that they can subscribe and enjoy all the latest.
Now on to the good stuff…
William Nylander Wows In Sweden
November 19 by Jim Parsons
William Nylander clinched the Toronto Maple Leafs' second consecutive win in Sweden with a mesmerizing overtime goal against the Minnesota Wild. Post-game, Nylander expressed his delight, stating, "It's been a blast, I love being here," basking in the vibrant atmosphere of his hometown reunion in Stockholm.
Nylander not only thrilled the local fans but also left his father Michael in awe, rendering him nearly speechless (except for an expletive that is hilariously going viral right now). As Michael DeRosa wrote in his post-game takeaways piece:
“Nylander’s immense confidence and skill were on full display during this goal. Defenceman Morgan Rielly made a crucial block in the Maple Leafs’ zone and quickly passed it to Nylander. From there, Nylander skated the puck into the Wild’s zone, blew past their defencemen, and deked out Marc-Andre Fleury for the goal. It was a perfect way for this wonderful trip to end, and Nylander got to play the hero in the country he represents in international play.”
With an impressive five points in his last two games, the Swedish forward has emerged as a pivotal force propelling the Leafs to success on the international stage. His end-to-end masterpiece during overtime served as a punctuation mark to his Swedish adventure, captivating fans and leaving them in awe.
This triumph in Sweden extends Nylander's extraordinary point streak to 17 consecutive games, solidifying his status as a key contributor to the Leafs' ongoing success.
Needless to say, he’s going to get paid!
