Welcome back to Columbus Blue Jackets News & Rumors. Every Monday or thereabouts, we talk about news from around the team from the past week and offer our take on it and what to expect moving forward. Can you believe it’s the end of October already?
As usual, we have a lot to discuss. The Blue Jackets enter the new week with a 3-3-2 record overall. New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov pitched his fourth career shutout against the Blue Jackets in his career on Saturday night. That’s where we begin this week.

In this latest edition of New York Rangers News & Rumors, Blake Wheeler‘s start with the Blueshirts has been disastrous, going pointless in his first eight games. Can the veteran winger turn things around? In other news, after a nightmare of a preseason, goaltender Jonathan Quick has been excellent in the regular season so far for the Rangers. Lastly, Barclay Goodrow hit his 500th career NHL game against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 28, and that is quite an accomplishment for the undrafted forward. Let’s discuss all of this and more in today’s (Oct. 30) Rangers News & Rumors column now.
Maple Leafs News & Rumors: Sammy, Willie, Timmy & Talbot
October 29, 2023 by The Old Prof
All in all, it was a great road trip for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the big picture, it was one of those trips that if, in the beginning, you’d have known your team would come home with a 3-1-1 record, you would have taken it. Last night, against the Nashville Predators all eyes were on how Ilya Samsonov (Sammy) would do. It was a positive game for the beleaguered goalie. The Predators defeated the Maple Leafs with a final score of 3-2 in overtime. But, had it not been for former Maple Leafs’ player Ryan O’Reilly and his two power-play goals, it might have been a win.
In this edition of Maple Leafs News & Rumors, I’ll take a look at some of the players who made an impact with the Maple Leafs in this game. I’ll also share what I know now about the injury that forced Timothy Liljegren (Timmy) out of the game last night. For readers who want a takeaways piece, let me encourage you to go to my THW colleague Michael DeRosa’s link below.
