Leafs vs. Red Wings Pre-Game Notes:
William Nylander has been the star of the Toronto Maple Leafs over the past few days as the team made its way to Sweden to play in the Global Series Sweden. Back home and in front of tons of friends and family, Nylander has picked up some 90-100 tickets for people to come and watch as the Maple Leafs take on the Red Wings.
Seeking to prolong his season-opening point streak to 16 games, expect Nylander to have a big game.
Experienced defenseman John Klingberg participated in the team's morning skate on Friday, but his return to the lineup for the game has been ruled out. The 31-year-old had previously missed last Friday's game against the Calgary Flames due to an undisclosed injury but made a comeback in Saturday's matchup against the Vancouver Canucks. The issue is lingering and Klingberg says it’s something that has always been there.
Maple Leafs projected lineup
Matthew Knies -- Auston Matthews -- Mitchell Marner
Tyler Bertuzzi -- John Tavares -- William Nylander
Nicholas Robertson -- Max Domi -- Calle Jarnkrok
Noah Gregor -- David Kampf -- Bobby McMann
Morgan Rielly -- TJ Brodie
Mark Giordano -- Jake McCabe
William Lagesson – Simon Benoit
Ilya Samsonov
Joseph Woll
Ryan Reaves is expected to be a healthy scratch for a second consecutive game, while Ilya Samsonov gets the start.
Red Wings Notes:
Alex Lyon will get the start in goal for the Red Wings. Jeff Petry is out and former Maple Leafs defenseman Justin Holl is in for Detroit. The Red Wings have struggled to score but the Wings have some scoring punch thanks to Alex DeBrincat and a strong start from Dylan Larkin.
Detroit is 8-5-3 on the season. They lost a wild one to the Senators on Thursday in overtime.
