Leafs vs. Flames Pre-Game Notes:
Coming off of an ugly loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to rebound with a win over the Calgary Flames on Friday night. News coming into the game is that Jake McCabe will be slotted back in while John Klingberg will sit.
Apparently, Klingberg has been dealing with an injury and his being pulled from the lineup is not performance based.
McCabe has recovered from a groin injury that sidelined him for the past six games, yet he hasn't registered any points in seven games this season.
Meanwhile, Klingberg, who skated with the fourth pair in practice alongside the injured Conor Timmins, has been the subject of much criticism in Leafs Nation. Despite contributing five assists in 13 games this season, his performance suffered in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators, where he posted a -3 rating. Keefe confirmed the 31-year-old will be allowed to rest and recover.
In net against Calgary, Joseph Woll, aged 25, gets the starting nod as announced by Keefe on Thursday. Woll holds a 4-4-0 record this season, appearing in eight games with a .913 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average. Dan Vladar will go for the Flames with word that Jacob Markstrom is nursing some kind of issue.
As always, the offense will run through Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander, all whom have played fairly well this season. Matthews leads the way with 13 goals and 19 points on the season. Elias Lindholm is the Flames leading scorer with eight points on the season.
Expect Morgan Rielly to have a big game. He’ll get top power play duty and he leads the Maple Leafs with 24:47 minutes per game.
