On Tuesday, the NHL held its annual NHL Draft Lottery. It makes for a different topic of conversation while the Stanley Cup Playoffs rage on. As was predicted by many, Seattle will select eighth in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. It’s not the most alluring spot, but beggars can’t be choosers. Today we have a gander at some potential draftees who might be called upon to adorn Kraken colors next season.Â

Free agency season is less than two months away. The Seattle Kraken are among those clubs who have been idle for a few weeks – save, of course, the firing of head coach Dave Hakstol on April 29. All 32 teams have pending free agents on their rosters, but the hottest commodities are the ones that at least helped their clubs make the postseason. With that in mind and given the Kraken’s scoring woes, which offensively gifted unrestricted free agents (UFA) from recently eliminated playoff teams could Seattle envision signing?

Kraken Refute Report That Players Wanted Hakstol Fired

The plot thickens. On April 29, the same day Seattle Kraken general manager (GM) Ron Francis gave head coach Dave Hakstol his marching orders, unexpected information came to light. ESPN NHL reporter Emily Kaplan, while discussing the situation on a segment called The Point, brought up the possibility of some Kraken players proclaiming that they would not want to remain on the roster if Hakstol was still the head coach. That, we now know, did not sit well with either the team’s GM or the players.
