Maple Leafs’ Matthew Knies Leaves Practice With Injury
January 10, 2024 by Michael DeRosa
With the Toronto Maple Leafs’ next game being on Jan. 11 against the New York Islanders, the Original Six club practiced today (Jan. 10). Unfortunately, their team practice has now been overshadowed by some bad news.
Maple Leafs rookie Matthew Knies left the team’s practice early after suffering a lower-body injury. The 21-year-old winger needed help leaving the ice from his teammates. He also could not put any weight down on his leg. At the time of this writing, an injury update has not been provided on Knies. However, given the way he left the ice, it is impossible not to feel concerned about the young forward.
Maple Leafs Recall Struggling Ilya Samsonov
January 10, 2024 by Michael DeRosa
The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a notable roster, as goaltender Ilya Samsonov has been called back up to their NHL roster. In a corresponding move, fellow Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby has been sent back down to the American Hockey League (AHL).
Samsonov, 26, will now be looking to turn things back around after being recalled by the Maple Leafs. The 2023-24 season has been a nightmare for him, and the truth is in his stats. In 15 appearances for Toronto this campaign, he sports a 5-2-6 record, a 3.94 goals-against average (GAA), and a .862 save percentage (SV%).
What Nylander’s Deal Means for Draisaitl and McDavid Contracts
January 9, 2024 by Jim Parsons
If there’s one thing the William Nylander deal just proved, it’s that Leon Draisaitl is going to get paid. Nylander’s eight-year, $11.5 million AAV extension has put Draisaitl into an entirely new echelon of the NHL contracts. How the Edmonton Oilers navigate that will be a huge issue. Then, when you factor in Connor McDavid’s deal, the situation in Edmonton over the next few seasons is downright scary.
