Today in Hockey History: Oct. 20
Two of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history excelled on this date. Plus, a whole slew of Hall of Fame goaltenders left their mark on the game, and this proved to be a very big date for southern California hockey. So, let’s take a trip back in time and revisit all the great memories from Oct. 20.
Jacques Plante: The Man in the Fiberglass Mask
The month of November is perhaps the most important for any present-day goaltender guarding the crease in the National Hockey League – but most might not even know why. It was during that month back in 1959 that the position changed forever, thanks to a 6-foot, 175-pound man from Quebec.
Top 3 All-Time Bruins Goalies
by Brandon Share-Cohen
The Boston Bruins have a rich history in the world of hockey as an Original Six franchise, but their history of goaltenders has not always been so strong.
In the 98-year history of Bruins’ hockey, 110 goaltenders have donned a Bruins uniform and played to varying degrees in Boston. Some of these goalies have proven to be among the best in history while others have failed to stand out for better or for worse.
While the latter may not be very interesting, the former is certainly something that will always be a relevant topic of discussion. For this reason, it makes sense to take a look through history and determine which Bruins netminders are the very best.
Today in Hockey History: Oct. 19

There were league debuts, first goals, assists, and wins among today’s memories. So, let’s step inside the THW time machine and relive all the best memories from this date.
The NHL’s Most Unbreakable Records
by Andrew Forbes
Many athletes believe – or at least pretend to believe – that records are made to be broken. If that’s the case, they haven’t taken a look at the NHL’s record books, or should I say the book that Gretzky re-wrote.
Wayne Gretzky’s name is scribbled throughout the pages of this particular book. In fact, he holds or shares 61 current records acknowledged by the National Hockey League. While some of his records will find their way onto this list, some of these untouchable records may surprise the average hockey fan.
Regardless of how shocking or unbelievable some of these milestones are, they all of one thing in common. Good or bad, they are all at the top of the NHL’s most untouchable records.
