Revisiting the 3-Team Alexander Romanov Trade

On July 7, 2022, news broke at the NHL Draft of the Montreal Canadiens trading defenseman Alexander Romanov and the 98th overall selection to the New York Islanders for the 13th overall pick. It was then announced the Canadiens would be flipping the 13th overall selection and the 66th overall selection to the Chicago Blackhawks for former third overall pick, Kirby Dach. Now two years later we have a better idea who came out on top of the blockbuster deals.

New York Islanders’ Top 10 Prospects: 2024 Playoffs

The New York Islanders have one of the weakest prospect pools in the NHL. They have not made a first-round selection since they took Simon Holmstrom 23rd overall in 2019 and have traded many of their other draft picks. The team is currently trying to contend for a Stanley Cup, so prospect development has not been a priority. However, considering the team’s lack of draft capital, they have done an impressive job at the draft.
