Islanders’ Kyle MacLean Leads New Era of 4th Line Hockey

The big news on the New York Islanders’ front was the three-year contract they gave Kyle MacLean (the big news came on a day when all the big news was happening, making this deal a minor story). He was a pleasant surprise this season and added depth to the forward unit. Now, he’s being rewarded by general manager (GM) Lou Lamoriello, who is signaling confidence in the young skater as a key part of the fourth line.

Islanders Need to Target Jets’ Rutger McGroarty in a Trade

On the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman discussed Winnipeg Jets’ prospect and University of Michigan star, Rutger McGroarty. Friedman states he has heard McGroarty’s name in trade talks due to his decision to return to Michigan for his junior season. While this is unlikely to amount to a trade, the New York Islanders must join the McGroarty sweepstakes.

The Florida Panthers jumped out to the 3-0 series lead, but the Edmonton Oilers tied it up, and now, all eyes are on Game 7 on Monday night.

The New York Islanders fell in Round 1 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Carolina Hurricanes, and it is clear change is needed for the team to return to its former glory. It was a long season, filled with injuries, blown leads, and false confidence, providing a clear picture that the current roster is multiple pieces away from becoming a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. With the roster so far away, they should use the 2024-25 season to gauge the team’s ability to prepare for a historic 2025 offseason.
