The streaky New York Islanders are in the winning column again, with a shot at qualifying for the postseason. The team sits third in the Metropolitan Division with 85 points. Since playoff contenders behind them in the standings don’t have any games in hand, the Islanders control their own destiny.

The Bridgeport Islanders are nearing the end of a disappointing 2023-24 season. With four games to go, they are in last place by seven points in the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Atlantic Division, and if nothing changes between now and the end of the season, they will come in last in the entire league. Despite their subpar record, there have been some players who have shown promise throughout the season; here are a few key players who have made an impact.

It would be hard for fans at the beginning of the season to imagine the New York Islanders would be in a playoff spot at the same time they are discussing benching Ilya Sorokin, but here we are. With his underwhelming performance through the season, there appears to be a battle in the crease for who would start Game 1 of the playoffs for the Islanders. With Semyon Varlamov getting the nod in the Islanders’ key matchup against the New York Rangers, it seems as if the team has chosen a direction moving forward.

Islanders’ Lamoriello Getting Mixed Results Out of Offseason Moves

Just when the New York Islanders looked done this season, they started winning. A six-game winning streak has them boasting a 37-27-15 record which is the third-best in the Metropolitan Division and they are only a few points away from securing a spot in the playoffs.
Islanders’ Denis Potvin: Overlooked Greatness

Today’s NHL fan does not recognize how masterful of a defender Denis Potvin was when he played. A 1991 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Vanier, Ontario native was the top overall selection in the 1973 NHL Draft. Potvin would go on to play 15 seasons in the league – all for the New York Islanders.
