How the NHL Can Solve It's 'Did the Puck Cross the Line' Concerns
Could the overtime situation in Game 4 between the Oilers and Ducks have been avoided?
The NHL needs to avoid issues like the one that occurred in Game 4 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks. A complicated, and somewhat messy overtime call that led the NHL’s War Room to go with the on-ice call raised questions less about whether the puck actually crossed the goal line than about whether there was proof.
An entertaining, near must-win game for Edmonton ended in the most disappointing way. A puck, thrown into the crease, bounced off Darnell Nurse, then between Tristan Jarry’s legs. It slid underneath him and started coming to a stop as it crossed the line.
The Ducks thought it went in. The Oilers were hoping there wasn’t enough evidence to prove it did.
That’s when things got confusing.
