Oilers Shift Gears On Top Deadline Targets Thanks to High Prices
March 4, 2024 by Jim Parsons
It appears the Edmonton Oilers had two high-end, top-six forwards on their radar ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. It also appears general manager Ken Holland has pivoted in his chase for both, according to NHL insiders. Edmonton was said to be heavily pursuing Jake Guentzel of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pavel Buchnevich of the St. Louis Blues. Unless the situation changes, it appears the Oilers are out.
Oilers & Devils Emerging as Potential Trade Partners
March 4, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers are looking to improve their roster before the trade deadline. With big names already off the board, like Chris Tanev and Elias Lindholm, who were both dealt from the Calgary Flames, the Oilers will now have to search elsewhere if they hope to bolster their roster for the postseason.
Oilers’ McDavid Extends Home Game Point Streak to 25 Games
March 4, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers took down the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday (March 3) night in a statement win defeating them 6-1 on home ice. While Zach Hyman and Calvin Pickard stood out as the strongest players on the ice and helped lift the Oilers to victory, one big storyline is that Oilers captain Connor McDavid extended his home game point streak to 25 games. Considering the start the Oilers had to their 2023-24 campaign compared to where they are now, this is great news for them, and they seem to be peaking at the right time of the season.

The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for what they hope is a busy 2024 NHL trade deadline. General Manager Ken Holland is actively exploring options to make necessary moves and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman emphasized the Oilers’ focus on clearing cap space before executing any significant trades. In fact, for Holland to do anything of real significance, selling off an active contract is probably a must.
What Elias Pettersson’s Extension Means for McDavid, Draisaitl
March 3, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Vancouver Canucks recently chose to extend superstar forward Elias Pettersson to an eight-year contract worth $11.6 million per season, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NHL beginning next season. While his play lately has proven him worthy of this massive extension, the Edmonton Oilers have their own extensions they must start worrying about signing soon. Leon Draisaitl has a contract with the Oilers extending through the 2024-25 season and is eligible to sign an extension as of July 1st, 2024. Connor McDavid‘s contract extends through the 2025-26 season, and both players will indeed be looking for massive pay raises as their play in recent seasons has shown they are on pace to become two of the best Oilers of all time.
