The Red Wings travel to Dallas tonight to take on their former Western Conference foe, the Stars for the first time this season. The Wings will be looking to shake off their loss to the Senators on Saturday night. A bright spot in what was mainly a bad night for the team came in the form of Patrick Kane scoring his first goal as a Red Wing.
The Stars come into tonight’s matchup having gone 2-3 in their last five games. They have been led by forwards Joe Pavelski (25 points) and Jason Robertson (24), while Miro Heiskanen has led the way on the back end for the Stars with 16 points.
Tonight’s game marks the 270th time the two teams matchup in the regular season with the Red Wings holding a 116-108-34-11 record over the Stars (W-L-T-OTL).

Recent Matchup History
Tonight’s matchup marks the first time the two teams play each other this season after facing off twice last season. Last season the Stars took both games against the Red Wings, winning 3-2 in overtime on December 10th and 6-1 on April 10th.
The Red Wings were led offensively by Dylan Larkin and David Perron who tallied two points apiece (both will be out of the lineup tonight), while Ville Husso was in between the pipes in both games and stopped 32 of the 38 shots he faced.
The Stars were led by Jason Robertson (four points), Heiskanen (three points), and Jake Oettinger. Oettinger won both games for the Stars while stopping all but three of the 39 shots he faced from the Red Wings.
Key’s to Victory for Red Wings
The Red Wings enter tonight’s game with a beaten-up lineup with Klim Kostin, Larkin, Perron, and JT Compher all being out of the lineup and their depth up front will be put to the test. Players like Alex DeBrincat and the newly-signed Patrick Kane will be relied on heavily at the top of the lineup.
Players such as Michael Rasmussen and Robby Fabbri will also be looked upon to help provide much-needed offense from the middle section of the lineup. Fabbri has had a solid five-game stretch, having put up six points in that stretch.
The Wings will also look for a bounce back from their goaltending after Alex Lyon was given the hook after giving up four goals in two periods against the Senators on Saturday. The hope is that James Reimer can fill in tonight for the team and build off his 11-save performance in relief of Lyon Saturday.
A bounce-back game all-around for the Wings will be needed to take down one of the Western Conference’s top teams in the Stars tonight.
