Rangers’ Defensive Woes Are Cause for Alarm
December 8, 2023 by Brendan Azoff
On the surface, the New York Rangers‘ 18-5-1 record paints a happy picture. Despite key players missing time due to injuries and below-expectation starts from some prominent names, the Blueshirts have still managed to rake in 37 of a possible 48 points this season.
The style of game the team has been playing over the past two weeks will oust them from the postseason, not carry them to the pinnacle of hockey. Laviolette and company need to make those corrections and regain their early season form before the bad habits seep too far into the team’s DNA.
3 Rangers’ Trade Partners in a Potential Barclay Goodrow Deal
December 7, 2023 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
Barclay Goodrow is a bottom-six forward with the Rangers and at the age of 30, he should still have some productive seasons left in him. This season, however, he has not been great offensively and his defensive play has taken a step back as well. In 23 games this season, he has one goal and two assists for three points, and while he’s never been a huge offensive producer, this is a massive step back in pace from the 31 points he had last season.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the Rangers tried to trade Goodrow near the deadline when teams have accrued enough cap space to make it work. It’s important to note he does have a 15-team no-trade list and while that list isn’t public knowledge, some teams could use his services more than the Rangers can. Assuming he would be willing to work with the Rangers on a trade, here are three trade partners in a potential Goodrow deal.
Rangers’ Chris Drury Getting Great Payoff From Bargain Contracts
December 7, 2023 by Brian Abate
Chris Drury, the general manager of the New York Rangers, made a few big movies at the trade deadline last season, acquiring star forwards Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko, as well as defensive-minded players Niko Mikkola and Tyler Motte. All four were unrestricted free agents this offseason, and the team had very little cap room. They ended up losing all four players in free agency.
Without much money to spend this offseason, Drury made some very important signings on team-friendly deals. Those deals are now paying off in a big way for the Rangers, who are off to an impressive 18-5-1 start despite dealing with injuries to key players.
