3 Golden Knights Who Have Stepped Up in Place of Injured Stars
January 31, 2024 by Ben Fisher
What had been a seven-game point streak for the Vegas Golden Knights came to a flat end in Saturday’s (Jan. 27) 5-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the club’s final contest prior to the All-Star Break. Despite the loss, the point streak helped carry them into the break with some much-needed momentum, all the while offering another example of the Golden Knights’ penchant for soldiering on in the face of injury-related adversity.
With Jack Eichel, Shea Theodore, William Karlsson and William Carrier all sidelined, Vegas reeled off a 5-0-1 record that included a pair of wins over the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Rangers. Along the way, Brendan Brisson and Sheldon Rempal both netted their first career NHL goals and Adin Hill made a successful and long-anticipated return to the crease. This stretch embodies the Golden Knights’ embrace of the “next man up” mentality, a collective mindset that has only grown stronger under Bruce Cassidy. And yet again, there was no shortage of players who stepped up when needed.
Golden Knights Have Had 4 First-Time Goal Scorers this Season
January 26, 2024 by Ben Fisher
In a(nother) season filled with injuries, the Vegas Golden Knights have once again been forced to lean on their depth. Of the 19 players to dress in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the New York Islanders, seven were not in the opening night lineup this season (although Adin Hill was back!)
This type of turmoil is obviously less than ideal. But with points in each of their past five games — including wins in four of them — and the return of the club’s No. 1 goalie, there is reason for optimism around the team even amidst these circumstances. While no individual call up has necessarily blown the team’s brass away in seizing their opportunity, this young group has offered steady production and has kept the team afloat in an increasingly-competitive Pacific Division playoff race.
Patrick Roy Can Turn Islanders Into Golden Knights
January 23, 2024 by Mike Fink
The Patrick Roy era is off to a promising start with plenty of optimism for the team and the fanbase for the rest of the season. He was hired on Jan. 20 and in his first game behind the bench on Jan. 21, led the New York Islanders to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars, one of the best teams in the Western Conference. One game in, the Islanders look noticeably different on the ice, with more structure defensively and a disciplined approach to the game.
On Tuesday, the Islanders will have a much bigger test. They host the Vegas Golden Knights, the defending Stanley Cup champions with the second-best record in the Pacific Division with a 27-14-6 record. The Golden Knights, led by head coach Bruce Cassidy, are the team that the Islanders want to become under Roy. They have been a juggernaut in the Western Conference and one of the best teams in the NHL in recent seasons and their style of play makes them admirable for any coach.
