Flyers Potential 2024 Draft Picks: Konsta Helenius
The two-way Finnish center would fill a big hole for Philadelphia.
In our third edition of the potential prospects the Philadelphia Flyers might select with the earlier of their two first-round draft picks in 2024, we look at Konsta Helenius. The 17-year-old center could be available for the Orange and Black at their likely 12th-overall spot, and he’d be an intriguing choice if he does.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound forward put up fantastic numbers in Finland’s top hockey league, Liiga, during his 2023-24 campaign on top of being one of the most well-rounded players in the 2024 class.
What makes Helenius such a great prospect, and what does he project to be in the NHL? Why should the Flyers take a chance on him if he is available?
Helenius: A Future 1C?
When looking at Helenius’ point production during his age-17 campaign, it paints a picture of what he might be. He had 14 goals and 22 assists for an impressive 36 points in 51 contests. Of the 115 17-year-old skaters in the history of Liiga with a minimum of 20 games played, he finished 10th in points per game (P/G) at 0.71. In terms of total points, he has the fourth-best total in history behind Aleksander Barkov, Mikael Granlund, and Kaapo Kakko.
