Now, on to the good stuff…
Flames May Want to Put Out Feelers on Mangiapane
January 17, 2024 by Rupert McDonald
Even with their overtime win versus the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night (Jan. 16), the Calgary Flames remain a painfully average team. This can cause plenty of frustration for a fanbase, as certain nights they look like a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, while others see them look like a bottom feeder. Such is life as a mediocre team in the NHL.
Given how average the Flames are, most expect them to be sellers this season, with players like Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, and Chris Tanev all top candidates to be moved. There have also been rumours surrounding Jacob Markstrom and Blake Coleman, though they may very well stay put. That said, if general manager Craig Conroy truly wants to strip it down and retool, he should strongly consider moving all five players mentioned above, as well as another in Andrew Mangiapane.
3 Trade Destinations for Flames’ Blake Coleman
January 16, 2024 by Rupert McDonald
Blake Coleman is at it again. On Saturday night (Jan. 13) versus the Vegas Golden Knights, Coleman scored a goal and an assist in a 3-1 Calgary Flames win. The 32-year-old has been on fire lately, and this game marked his third-straight multi-point outing, with at least a point in seven of his last eight games.
While he is particularly hot as of late, Coleman has been fantastic all seaso. The two-time Stanley Cup winner is leading the Flames with 19 goals and 37 points through 43 games in what is quickly shaping up to be the best season of his career. Given that the Flames are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline, it would be smart to move Coleman while his value is this high for future assets in return. Here are three teams that would be great fits.
Flames Need to Hurry Up and Sell
January 16, 2024 by Rupert McDonald
The Calgary Flames are a tricky team to get a read on. They won their final game in 2023 as well as their next two to begin the New Year to give them a three-game winning streak. They appeared to be on the verge of turning things around. But the good vibes quickly turned sour after a 4-3 loss to the injury-riddled Chicago Blackhawks.
After the Blackhawks loss, Flames fans appeared to be near giving up. But, as this team has shown in the past, they can suck you right back in and are doing so once again. With their 3-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 14, the Flames are once again on a three-game winning streak and remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. As exciting as it may seem for fans, it is a very dangerous spot to b and is something general manager Craig Conroy needs to fix in a hurry.
